HAMBUTTS MYND was built in the 1700s as a corn mill, which was driven by a wind mill. It still has the original beam and character. In 1800s it was converted into the first Girls School in the Gloucester village of Painswick and then in latter years it was converted into a normal dwelling house which is now run as a renowned Bed and Breakfast by John and Elizabeth.

HAMBUTTS MYND is situated up a side road and not in the centre of the bustling village. We are 200 yards from the main road, very quiet and just 5 minutes walk (2 blocks) from the beautiful Painswick with its historic buildings and magnificent church grounds.

Painswick was predominantly a wool producing village and there are still a few of the old mills left, some of which are open to the public to view, but most have now been converted into dwelling houses.

There are many interesting places one can visit within easy reach. We are not far from the M4 and M5 motorways, Bath takes approximately 1 hour, Bristol about hour, Gloucester is only 7 miles, Stroud 3 miles, Cheltenham 9 miles - ideally located for the Cheltenham Race Festival held each year at the Cheltenham Race Course, or just for that short break.

Some of the places of interest are: Gloucester Docks and Cathedral, Berkeley Castle, Bath Roman Baths, Tetbury Market, Cheltenham Spa Town and many local attractions, not to mention the wonderful walks in the beautiful part of the English countryside which is in the Queen of the Cotswolds.
