Gages Mill Guest House
We, Kate and Nathan, and our children, Chloe & Max, have called Gages Mill our home since September 2009. We moved to Ashburton in 2004 to raise our family in the country. It took us five years of persistent searching to find our ideal home 'Gages Mill' which we look forward to sharing with you. Gages Mills' history dates back to the 14th Century when it was a Wool Mill. The earliest formal mention of 'Gagys Myll' is found in the ministers accounts of King Henry VII in 1504. In its early life Gages Mill was the manorial Fulling Mill where cloth, having been woven, was cleansed of its grease using Fullers earth. In the latter years of its operational life Gages Mill was a Flock Mill making mattresses from waste wool. In the mid 1950's the Tope family lived in Gages Mill and started a small factory making special pens for plotting equipment know as, 'Gages Instruments'. Gages Mill was converted to a guest house in 1972. Gages Mill derives much of its charm and appeal from its location. Gages Mill exudes an abundance of character, both inside and out, whilst nurturing a wonderfully calm and relaxed homely atmosphere. There are an acre of gardens with seating areas where many an enjoyable afternoon can be spent relaxing, chatting and surrendering oneself to nature carrying on around you. Gages Mill offers six double guest bedrooms and one twin room – the twin is on the ground floor. All rooms have en-suite facilities, independently controlled central heating and open countryside views. Our rooms are comfortably furnished with high quality mattresses, bed linen, toiletries and bath towels. We have a comfortable and cosy guest television lounge which benefits from original granite walls and a wood burning stove. A granite archway leads to the dining room where there is additional seating for guests. Gages Mill is licensed and we are able to offer a carefully chosen selection of beers and wines.
